Influence of Nitrite on the Removal of Organic Matter and Manganese Using Pilot-Scale Biofilter: A Kinetic Study

Nitrite produced during ammonia oxidation can inhibit the activity of microorganisms. To provide guidance for optimization and design a biofilter, pilot-scale biofilter was established to investigate influence nitrite on organic matter manganese removal kinetics. The results demonstrated that CODMn, ammonia, in effluent were 2.77, 0.034, 0.026 mg/L steady phase, respectively. Organic affected by start-up process, as well increasing process. When increased from about 0.5 1 2 mg/L, matter, at 4 3 days 6 5 days, influent 6.27, 2.07, 1.19 respectively, all followed first-order kinetic rate. k-value 0.0268, 0.268, 0.216 min−1, half-life time 24.236, 2.583, 3.202 min, structure microbial communities will be investigated future.
